Digital pen technology makes data collection easy. It helps organisations with mobile workforces to transform their operational efficiency and productivity - bringing savings in time and cost, and improvements in business flow and energy efficiency.
Digital Pen and Paper (DP&P) takes an age old convenient way of information gathering and enhances it. Developed by Anoto Group AB in Sweden you can capture and transmit information as it is written using a wireless ink pen together with ordinary paper that has the Anoto digital pattern embedded into it. Handwriting is translated into pen strokes and these pen strokes are transmitted either via a mobile phone using GPRS or via a PC using a USB docking station. Using this process, graphical images of original documents and business forms can be delivered to back office systems in less than a minute. Pen strokes can also be converted into data files and delivered as XML.
Anoto functionality brings together digital communication and handwriting, putting the power of digital communication into pen and paper. Anoto functionality involves digital pen technology, digital paper technology and server technology.
Anoto functionality is what all products and services have in common. This compatibility allows you to use pen and paper just as you have always done, but now you are also connected to the digital world.
When using Destiny io digital pen and paper enabling Anoto functionality, a tiny camera in the pen registers the pen's movement across the grid surface on the paper and stores it as series of map coordinates. These coordinates correspond to the exact location of the page you’re writing on.
When you make a mark in the SEND box with your digital pen, the pen is instructed to send the stored sequence of map coordinates, which are translated into an image that will result in an exact copy of your handwriting displayed on any computer or mobile phone, or received as a Fax anywhere in the world.
The Anoto pattern is a single unique pattern that if printed out would cover the whole of Europe and Asia. It is a series of small dots printed on an invisible grid. The pattern can be embedded in any paper document and images such as form layouts can be overprinted.
Once graphical images are received they can then be converted to ascii text and transmitted in data files most commonly in XML format.
